Gold member benefit for whole family?
I will travel with my family (4 adults) to Japan Sapporo during Dec 27-31 this year. We will purchase travel package (air+hotel) from local travel agency with hotel stays at Sheraton Sapporo. I am the only person with Sheraton gold status. We will be staying in 2 hotel rooms.
Here are my questions:
1. We will be checking in together. If upgrade rooms are available, since I am the only person holding a gold status, is it the case that only 1 room will get upgraded? Or both rooms will get upgraded?
2. If yes, do I need to have both room reservations under my name?
3. Am I able to accumulate starpoints if my hotel stay is booked from local travel agent's vacation package (air + hotel)?
4. Am I able to accumulate starpoints if I book my Sheraton Hotel stay (non vacation package) via local travel agent?
Thanks!

I have the same issue when I travel with my family and it really seems to depend on the hotels. Most recently in Auckland, my wife and I were upgraded to the Club Floor and a suite and my two teenage boys were given a room a few floors below. My wife and I both decided that in the interest of world peace we would forego the upgrade and try and get a room a little closer. The hotel was happy to oblige but allowed the whole family to use the lounge, including free breakfast.
Regarding Sapporo itself: Most Japanese offices are closed around then and the first week of January, so the hotel could be pretty full. You may find that even as a Gold you don't get upgraded....

Only one room will be upgraded - to a Preferred Room, subject to availability at check-in - regardless of the rooms all being in your name. Membership benefits are for the member only.
2. If yes, do I need to have both room reservations under my name?
It won't matter. See # 1 and #3 below.
3. Am I able to accumulate starpoints if my hotel stay is booked from local travel agent's vacation package (air + hotel)?
No. Pre-paid package deals booked through travel agents are not eligible for Starpoints or stay credit; however, you could pick up Starpoints for any eligible incidentals during the stay - for both rooms, provided you are the registered guest for both.
4. Am I able to accumulate starpoints if I book my Sheraton Hotel stay (non vacation package) via local travel agent?
It depends. If your travel agent books a rate that is eligible, read: not a wholesale rate, then probably so.
