Using your *wood Amex at *wood properties
I thought that if you used your *wood AmEx at a *wood property you got more than 1 point for each $ spent. Finally actually looked at my card and that does not appear to be the case. The amount of my bill, which included almost $1000 in *wood charges, was th exact same as the amount of points credited to my account.
Was I just mistaken?

You don't get any additional points for using your SPG Amex.

No extra at SPG
One dollar equals one point, regardless of spg properties or not, unlike some other affinity cards. But then of course 1 *point is worth quite a bit more than say, 1 HH point, etc. My Marriott Visa gives me 1 point per dollar at non-Marriott, and (I think) 3 pts at Marriotts. But I'd rather take the 1 *pt per dollar from Amex.

You are all correct. ONLY 1 Starwood's point for each $ spent on SPG/AMEX card.
Hilton is 3 Hilton Honors points for each $ spent and 5 point for each $ spent at a Hilton property on a Hilton/AMEX card.

You actually do get 3 *points per dollar spent (more if you're gold or platinum). You only get 1 *point from Amex. The rest of the points come from *wood. If you're talking about a hotel stay, it's probably already taken care of. If you made a food or other purchase, you just need to call up *wood customer support and fax over either a copy of the receipt or credit card statement.
