We have owned a Westin bed for about five years and have had no problems.

I have had a queen-size pillowtop Westin Heavenly bed for about 2 years now. I could not be happier! Make sure you get a good frame with a center bar and you won't have sagging. Anything above a full needs a center bar.

I would love to hear how getting a pillowtop guarantees fewer years.

WE have the W plush top and added the W featherbed. Works great -- we fluff the featherbed when we change the sheets.

I'm actually GLAD I missed the 40% off deal on FW for the Heavenly Bed. I did however end up getting the better quality Simmons Beautyrest World Class Extra Firm Queen Set (1044 coils + foam encasing sides + extra support coils in lumbar zone) for $875 including delivery, tax, setup, removal, frame, cover. Original Price was over $3,000. Set sells for $1800 at Macys on sale. I was able to get the $875 price at Sleepys.

Mariner's Dream Bed

I am not trying to confuse or derail this discussion, it is a good one.
I have scoleosis (curvature of the spine) and have lots of back pain and always get up stiff and/or sore. I also don't sleep very well most of the time.
I had the good fortune to take a 10 day Holland America cruise in April and wow - I woke up every day feeling great, not stiff or sore - and I slept pretty well. What a mattress test - 10 straight nights!
So I have now ordered the "Mariner's Bed"
http://www.shophollandamerica.com/in...y_id_int=11671
It is clearly identified as a Sealy Postupedic and has a pretty specific 10 year warranty (link is on the page above) which would seem to address the pillow top question.
I could not see what the Westin Heavenly bed is - does anyone know who makes it etc?

I bought the W Double size bed with the whole package - box springs, sheets, pillows..etc I had the 35% off deal.

After reading the opinion on fatwallet.com, I got the W Plush top bed. It is technically not the heavenly bed - it's the W hotel bed. I also added the featherbed on top of the mattress.

Indeed I need to fluff the featherbed once a month or so or else you get an uneven bed. I am not sure if this is normal or just me.

I'd be interested in opinions about these mattresses WITHOUT the box spring. Is it wasting the mattress $$? Or doesn't it matter?

Same question here - is the only problem with the pillowtop that you can't flip it? And do you really need their box springs?

I paid $650 for the Queen W (without the box spring as i was using my own) and it has only about 800 coils. You did excellent on this.^

My advise is go to the store and try it out before buying. And bargin. Places like spleepys and mattress discounters can further bring their prices down. My wife once was able to get an additional 40% off the discounted price at one of those stores (she just blurrped out a price). If you think about it, how much does it cost for the material to make a mattress plus the labor - just a few hundred and they turn around and list it for thousands. Is all marketing.

Heavenly Beds are essentially a version of the Simmons Beautyrest Black model. Mattress makers are experts at mucking up the waters - they will cover one mattress with silk/damask, another with cotton, and boom! Two different model names and price points. As long as it's at least 800 coils for a queen and 1000 coils for a king, the part that matters most is how you feel when you're lying on it. (Not just for five minutes either - don't be afraid to literally lie around a mattress store for a couple of hours.)

No matter what you buy, you will probably want a new bed in 5-7 years. The only mattresses that never sag are flat wooden boards.

The Heavenly Bed was certainly available in the UK when I enquired a year or so ago. For the supplier details, call the Westin Turnberry Resort on +(44)(1655) 331000 and they'll point you in the right direction.

Be aware however that the prices in the UK are MUCH higher than the US list prices, before you even begin to consider some of the sale prices quoted here and the current exchange rate.

I think this is part of some people's confusion. I bought the pillowtop W bed for my home and the bed at the W hotel in New Orleans is a plushtop with a featherbed. I have stayed at a number of W's this year and I have yet to find a pillowtop in the hotel. If you want the "identical" experience, the addition of a featherbed and comparable threadcount sheets are required. I have been happy with my pillowtop at home, I just need to be around more to use it.

I am not sure how this affects sag, but the king size box springs comes as two pieces which means you certainly have more support down the middle of the mattress. Not a mattress expert, but that sounds more sturdy.

I believe Simmons likes to refer to them as a "sleep foundation"
