Personally, even with the change last year and a projected recategorization this February, no other program can currently compete with Starwood in terms of earning power. I'll be averaging 5000 points per night between now and March (mostly 1 night stays). Combine that with the fact that for my travel patterns Starwood offers the best price/performance ratio and that I enjoy most of the Starwood brands.

I would be very interested to hear what other hotel chain currently provides the right mix for your travel patterns?

While I am not going to scoff at SPG since it works well for me, Hyatt works very well for me ..... and ICHotelsGroup has some ridiculous -- ridiculously good -- earning (and redemption) possibilities too.

Thanks for the input. Your advice is practically gospel.

I am familiar with the Hyatt FFN but have yet to try them. I am not at all familiar with ICHotelsGroup promos. I am completely disatisfied with Hilton HHonors, and I used to have status with Marriott prior to switching to SPG.

In any event, I won't have any time to cast abroad in the short term since SPG has completely sewn up my loyalty for the next 3 months.

Does this mean that this is not combinable with Q1 promo? :td:

If so, why bother having this promo since I'm sure most people have already signed up for the other one.

William, can you please confirm? Thanks!

Looks to be a great promo, combinable with the Q1 6k every 4 stays that I selected! Wow. I'm going to be hopping from hotel to hotel this spring!

Just so others aren't looking for an immediate response; Lurker is out of the office until Monday. Thanks for your patience.

William,

After you return, could you confirm whether this promo is combinable with BOTH the:

- 1Q Double Stay Credit, and
- the LM 4 Free Nights promotion?

If so, what a deal! One hotel stay serving 4 purposes (plus sleeping) :)

Thanks in advance.

I understand the desire to obtain William's royal seal of approval. However, we have been down this path many times before. Unless Starwood suddenly changes direction with this promo, the answer is Yes and Yes. We have heard time and again (and reality has borne this out) that the fundamental determining criterion is who is paying for the promo. In this case, Q1 is a Starwood promo (Starwood pays), the LM 4 nights is a Le Meridian brand promo (the Le Meridien brand pays), and the 1k, 2k, 3k promo is a hotel specific promo (the individual hotels that participate pay).

Whenever we have had a similar assortment of promos in the past, they have always stacked. So unless Starwood suddenly reverses policy, assume the best.

Not eligible for stays booked prior to registering??? Not used to hearing this, particularly from Starwood...now I have to wait until the 500 point online booking is active again and rebook all my stays

I just rebooked at the Sheraton Suites Galleria in Houston for January. The cheapest rate seemed to be $249/night. However, when I clicked on Hotel Offers I found a Special Rate offer for $209/night which is what I booked.

When I read the T&Cs, I see the following 2 statements:

An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying a qualifying rate at the same hotel and that posts to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account. A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program.

This offer cannot be combined with other offers and is not applicable to groups.
Am I running the risk of not qualifying for the bonus?

while i can see some properties jumping up a category being a problem, let's also remember that the transfer to airline miles hasn't seen any devaluation...

this promo is a smart way for Starwood to try to soften the blow of what is likely another devaluation coming soon.

Yopu should have no problems with the 3 current bonus promotions. The T&C for the room rate only addresses combining multiple room rate discounts.

The bonus promotions are independent of hotel rates, as long as they're qualifying rates.
