Anyone know where to buy pearls in Bangkok?

I've broken down and will be doing a mileage run to Thailand. I'll spend 2 days in Bangkok and am wondering if there are any reputable places to buy pearls?
Thank you!

what kind of quality ?

lianluo,
it depends on what quality level you're looking for. If you want good quality at a very good price, pls pm me and I'll give you the name of my friend who is a very reputable jeweler. If you want ok quality for cheap price, there are a couple of places in the basement of the bldg across the street from Central World Plaza (I think it's called Narayana Phand bldg). They can also do stringing there. Objective: to pay the price commensurate with the quality. Even though there are a lot of places selling pearls cheaply, you might still be ripped off because the quality is very low.

Do you have a price range in mind ?

Use Caution

Pearl and jewelry scams are common in Bangkok. Google is your friend for learning more.

Here's a link I pulled just now: http://www.offtherails.com/scam.html

FatmaninNYC is right. Use caution if ure going pearl shopping in bkk. Unless you know your stuff, its not too wise to go around buying pearls in bkk.

There are lots of shops selling freshwater pearls and semi-precious stones on Charoen Krung (New) Rd between the Shangri-la and the Oriental -all quite reputable in my experience. To test whether they are real -rub them on your teeth and if they feel gritty they are. Freshwater pearls are much cheaper now than a few years ago as they are farmed in China.
The Narayana Phand Bldg will be cheaper as will Chatuchak which has many semi-precious gem sellers but the quality varies at Chatuchak.

IMHO, it is not wise to buy pearls in Thailand unless you are an expert. Or unless you have a very old friend from a very rich Thai family who will send you to their long-time family connection.
