[Sorry for the delay on this, YVR. I was just getting started on it when we'd begun our descent into ORD and the FA insisted I shut 'er down ASAP.

Just occurred to me due to mentioning of the airline in another forum. CPAir/Canadian Pacific Air Lines EZE-SCL (going on to LIM and YYZ) and look like it would have been on a -63. IB already answered for LPA-EZE.

CP Air is correct! However, it was not a DC-8-63. Uh, well uh, that don't leave us a lot of options now, do it? I reckon it's probably a RR Conway equipped DC-8-43 then. Here's the itinerary:

Iberia IB997 Las Palmas (LPA) 1225p-705p L Buenos Aires (EZE) DC-8-63 Th
CP Air CP 421 Buenos Aires (EZE) 910p-1000p D Santiago (SCL) DC-8-40 Th Sa

We know it's BN MIA-DFW-DEN connecting to WA DEN-YYC. It's not a 72S....

A bit surprised that no one else has attempted to tap this one in.....and although I'd really like to guess the equipment in question was a Lockheed L-188 Electra, that would perhaps be incorrect. So let's go with Boeing 720 service on both flights.....although the WA flight may have been operated with a 720B while the BN flight probably was operated with the earlier 720 model.

In 1973? No way it was an Electra! But a 720/720B combo - right on! As for the rest a youse - you should be ashamed to have let this one languish so long! What would WHBM have thought?!

Braniff BN74 Miami (MIA) 300p-445p S Dallas (DAL) 520p-558p Denver (DEN) D 720 Daily
Western WA 603 Denver (DEN) 700p-912p D Calgary (YYC) 720B Daily
If only I were born rich a few years earlier... I can just see myself in First Class all the way on this itinerary....

4. (1969) Business has come up in San Diego that requires your immediate attention. From your home base in Bogota, Colombia you'll need to get there ASAP! Imagine then your surprise and delight to discover that San Diego’s just one stop away via two nonstop flights operated by two different airlines. It only stands to reason that for the purposes of properly entertaining you with this little quiz, two different models of aircraft will also be involved. So then, we’re looking for the two airlines, the connection airport and the two aircraft models. Apurate pues!
Routing via MEX is correct. Not with AV, RG, BN or MX though. We're looking for a 707. A WA 720 is involved MEX-SAN

And if you do,
JL might have some dessert for you. I mean, as Pink Floyd so adroitly pointed out:

"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"

And up north, CP Air operated 747 service YVR - YYC as well as YVR - YEG......

And with that, my set of questions is complete, sending me back to the library next week to concoct a new batch.

In the meantime, it's just possible that our pal jlemon may have a treat or two for us...

Yep, here we go once again with a new set from the 1970's.....

As I'm submitting a short list of just ten new quiz questions, please limit your response to just one (1) question per day in order to allow all to participate that choose to do so. Also, you will have three (3) chances per question per day. Should you not be able to correctly answer the question after three tries in any given day, please wait one day and then try again. As always, we are looking for complete answers here which includes being specific as possible concerning the aircraft types. Thanks!

1. In 1972, this U.S. based airline was operating hourly shuttle service nonstop between a domestic airport and an international destination. These flights departed the U.S. airport in question every hour on the hour from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Nine of these flights were operated with the same type of turboprop equipment while the other two flights were operated with the same jet aircraft type. All of these flights were operated on a daily basis with the exception of one of the jet flights which was operated daily except on Thursdays. Name the air carrier that operated this shuttle service, the two airports that were served and the two different aircraft types. ANSWERED

2. It's still 1972 and you are in New York City. You are planning to travel to Mexico City for a weekend wedding but would like to stop en route and have a leisurely late lunch on board a sailboat owned by an old friend. You've found a schedule that fits the bill and may even have enough time for a short sail at the destination where you will make your connection. Two airlines will be involved, each operating equipment produced by different manufacturers. One of the flights operates daily and the other only operates every Friday. Both flights are nonstops. Identify both airlines, the airport you will depart from in the New York City area as well as the airport where you will catch your connecting flight following your lunch engagement and the different aircraft types. ANSWERED

3. Now it's 1974. You've been visiting Miami for a family reunion and now it's time to head home to Burlington, Vermont. You've never flown on board a 747 and sure would like to do so. A quick look at the OAG reveals that only one airline is operating nonstop 747 service from MIA to JFK: National. And the late afternoon 747 flight operated by National will allow you to make a connection at JFK to another airline for your flight home to BTV. So you call National to make a reservation....and are then told there's been a schedule change and the National 747 service is now operating daily except on Fridays with a DC-10 being flown on the service instead every Friday. And, of course, you need to travel on a Friday. So it's back to the drawing board....and you then ascertain there's a nonstop 747 service operated by another air carrier which connects to a flight to Burlington operated by the same airline with a connection time of just over two hours via an airport that is not located in the New York City area. Your connecting flight will be operated with a different aircraft type and will also make one stop en route to BTV. Perfect! You book first class on both flights. Name the airline, the connecting airport and the equipment operated on the second flight as well as the stop made by this service into Burlington. ANSWERED

The next two quiz items both have a timeline of 1975.....

4. You've had a lovely vacation backpacking with good friends in Crater Lake National Park. However, business calls and that means flying to Montreal for a meeting. Your journey will involve three different air carriers with two of these airlines operating nonstop flights with the same aircraft type. The third air carrier will operate a different aircraft on its flight which will make two stops en route. Thus, you will be making connections at two different airports with all three services operating daily. You will be arriving into Montreal Dorval Airport. You will also being departing on your first flight from the closest airport to your location in Crater Lake NP. Identify the airport you will depart from as well the two airports where you will make your connections along with the two stops made by one of the flights and all three airlines and the aircraft types. ANSWERED

5. Time for a truly interesting milk run! You will be departing from Los Angeles and heading to Tulsa. One connection will be involved with both flights being operated by the same air carrier with the same aircraft type. You will have exactly one hour to make your connection. Your first flight will make two stops en route and your second flight will make four stops. Name the airline, the two stops made by the first flight, the connecting airport, the four stops made by the second flight and the same equipment operated on both flights. ANSWERED

The next two quiz items both have a timeline of 1978....

6. You are in West Palm Beach where you've just successfully concluded a sailboat transaction. A couple of old ski bum friends have called wanting to know if you would be interested in joining them at a ski resort located in Lake Louise, Alberta west of Calgary. Well, of course! You've put together an interesting itinerary involving three different airlines operating respective nonstop flights with each operating a different aircraft type produced by the same manufacturer. Thus, you will be making two connections during your journey from PBI to YYC. Identify all three air carriers, the two connecting airports and the aircraft types. ANSWERED

7. According to the OAG, there was only one airline operating nonstop service from Orlando to San Juan at this time and it was only operating one daily flight on the route. Name this air carrier and the equipment it operated on the service. ANSWERED

The final three quiz items all have a timeline of 1979.....

8. You are on your way from Portland, Oregon to Pittsburgh. Your flight operates daily and makes two stops en route. Identify the air carrier, the two stops and the aircraft type. ANSWERED

9. Now you are on your way from Seattle to New York City. You could have flown nonstop from SEA to JFK with one of the usual suspects; however, you would much rather arrive into LGA. Ah, here's a direct flight to La Guardia which makes two stops en route. The routing is rather circuitous but what the heck: you'll be in first class the whole way with breakfast, lunch and dinner being served. Name the air carrier, the two stops and the equipment. ANSWERED

10. If you wanted to fly on board a Boeing 737-200 from Burbank to Dallas/Fort Worth at this time, what airline would you call in southern California? Please note the daily flight in question from BUR to DFW wasn't a nonstop as it made two stops en route. So in order to correctly answer this one, you will also need to identify both stops along with the air carrier you will be calling to make your reservation. ANSWERED

Thanks for the questions, JL. This looks like an entertaining batch! Let's have a go at #3:

Well now, if it's First Class to Burlington in 1974, then it's gotta be Delta operating over that old Northeast route that came through Cleveland. It's made for an interesting question or two in past questions. The only thing is - for some reason I'm thinking the flight terminated at Chicago Midway. But maybe that was with Delta later on since Midway saw so little use through the early 70s. So - let's go with Delta operating a 747 MIA-ORD connecting to a DC-9-30 ORD-CLE-BTV.

Post photos. For those who are curious to know Amtrak charges ~$4/mile, and the cars have to be certified.
