London Haircutters for Males
I've been spoiled by non-US haircutters. (Most recently by a €12.50 haircut in France, which was better than the US$65 I used to pay locally.)
Anyway, any recommendations for haircutters for males in central London?
Thanks.
Rich

I asked a similar question before a trip to London last year. Here are some responses I received on fodors.com...
- Personally I go for the simplest and most straightforward dry-cut 'short back and sides' for 6 pounds from a chain called Mr Toppers or similar 'hole in the wall' locations in and around Soho (and before anyone s******s, I am talking about haircuts).
- For Instant English atmosphere, Trumpers wins hands down. Curzon Street branch rather than Jermyn Street. About 30 pounds for a basic cut. Appointments essential. Things like manicures aren't available every day.
- If you want modern cutting-edge cool,Trumpers is absolutely not your place. Wallpaper magazine is a good source for Britchic.
I ended up choosing Trumpers as it was close to our UK office. A fun experience in Mayfair, and I looked quite British for a few days. But I went with a change the barber recommended and it did not grow in well (my hair gets too thick too quickly). So if you know how to describe what you want, they are skilled and I recommend them. If you want creativity, I would suggest finding a more chic place in SOHO?

Toni & Guy in Covent Garden and the Vidal Sassoon school were mentioned most for women - not sure if they do men's as well.

I wouldn't recommend Toni & Guy at all -- expensive, pretentious, and seriously not that good at all. They've ruined the hair of many of my friends and all have vowed never to go back. I won't go there now having seen their works of art!!
Charles Worthington is good but they have become quite expensive as of late. The Great Queen Street location is nice and small; the Percy Street HQ is large and VERY busy. Service is good, but at that price. . . . . Senior Stylist comes in nearly Ł50!!!
The place I go to is Ginger in Tavistock Street in Covent Garden. With my student discount I get a good wash, cut, and style with the senior stylist for about Ł25 which is half the price of Toni and Guy and Charles Worthington.
Geo F. Trumpers is cool in a sepia-toned, antique sort of way...... perhaps more suited for those mid-40s and senior?? ducking

A couple of locations I can recommend where I can get a decent hair cut for under Ł10...
1) Marylebone Station - just as you go in the entrance, on your left
2) The Barber Shop on Mill Street - runs off Conduit Street, opposite Saville Row (this might cost more than a tenner now though...)
3) There's also a place on Gracechurch Street I use, just to one side of Leadenhall Market (possibly the south). I think it's called Nicholson & Griffin - barber shop upstairs and a hairdressing salon downstairs.
I've been to cheaper places too, but they've managed to *$%^ up what little hair I have anyway...

Ive noticed a haircutter in one of the Burberrys on Reagent Street. No idea if they are any good. Ive been spoiled by Manhattan haircutters Im afraid so I havent paid any attention to it. But if someone knows where I can get an old fashioned shave in London I would love to hear about it.

I normally pass on the cut in London... too often I've been faced with a quick run and a pair of clippers, rather than my preferred scissor cut. That seems to be fairly common.
Timothy
I get it cut when I'm in Denver.... and use Phil Anshutz's barber. $17+tip for the same scissors as a billionare.

It's a little more expensive than Ł10 (!) but I go to The Refinery, a male only hairdresser and grooming salon...

The Refinery looks interesting. Im pretty happy with my haircut guy but a nice shave a facial treatment would do wonders for the jet lag next time in London. It is a bit more there than I pay in NY but not that much more. I will try to check it out. Thanks for the tip. Any other shave and haircut suggestions??
