Booked on Continental.com mix of CO & UA Metal keep losing seats for children

I'm currently based in Singapore and will be flying home to YHZ tomorrow. I booked flights from SIN-NRT-EWR-YHZ for the Christmas holdiay in November on Continental.com. At the time of booking on the web I was able to select seats for my little 5 person army in adjacent seats for all the legs. At least that is what the website was showing. I checked back at the start of December and only the seats for adults were showing on the UA legs (SIN-NRT and EWR-YHZ). To make matters worse there were no longer seats near my wife and I showing on the online seat map. I called Continental and the phone rep was able to gets us sort of sitting together which was an improvement but not ideal.

I have been checking the seat maps on Continental.com and when a block of seats opened last night I went in to reslect adjacent seats. Now when I went to check in online this morning the seats for my children are again not showing up on the UA flight from SIN-NRT. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have certainly wasted a lot of time dealing with this after calling United/Continental back again, I am back having seats sort of close togehter but with my kids being 3, 7 & 8 we are sitting 2, 2 & 1. I am very frustrated, I can't believe that the system integration is still so bad given how far along the merger is.

Welcome to FT!, ReefFlyer

Some have had better success handling their UA operated flights directly on the UA site in your situation.

You will need the UA PNR, ask the agents or it is available on CO.com.
Go to united.com and pull up the reservation with the UA PNR -- should have better success on seat assignments.

We have a mixed UA/CO itinerary as well. We cannot see the CO seats on united.com, nor can we see the UA seats on continental.com. It's definitely best to handle the seats for each segment on the native airline's web site.

Thanks I'm trying to sort it out through UA now.

The merger is not that far along - the airlines are still working as a code share - It won't really feel like the merger has become functional until everyone is on Shares.
