Announcement 27 March 2012

Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:
  • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

  • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):
  • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit. Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
  • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
  • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
  • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved for certain Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
  • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
  • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
  • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
  • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.com to learn about upcoming events
  • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection special rates and benefits
  • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
  • 24/7 Concierge Services

For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:

  • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

  • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

  • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options

For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

How long after applying for the card before I have UC access?
Chase / UA states (Offer Details)
Please allow 2 weeks after account open date for the United Club membership to activate
but it usually is quicker. At UCs, much of the time they will see it in under a week. *A lounges may require the physical card which may take 4-6 weeks. Those accepting the virtual card should work about the same as UCs.

I'm trying to understand how this card is beneficial to 1Ks / GS'es after the first year.

As a 1K, you can get an RCC membership for $375. The card costs $395 / year, though, so what does the incremental $20 get you?

a.) 1.5 miles on dollars spent with UA.

Sorry, the Sapphire card gives 2 miles on all travel, and you can directly convert to UA.

b.) UG's on domestic award tix

OK, that's nice I guess, but I don't usually redeem for domestic award tickets.

So after the first-year free (which is nice, I agree), what benefit is there to having this card as a 1K?

It seems this is a much better deal for someone in the Plat range who flies enough to justify a RCC membership, but still has to pay the higher RCC membership fee.

Am I missing something?

It's 1.5 miles on all purchases even non-UA purchases.

Would some kind FTer out there on the road be kind enough to PM me a code if they have a spare minute? I'd be very grateful as I'm not going to have a chance for a few weeks.
I saw the brochures with the code yesterday in IAD and AUS. I'll pick some up my way home (IAD) on Friday.

Here's an odd question, I am 20 years old and it says in the T & C you must be 18 to apply. What do they do when/if you get accepted with the membership to the Club? Would I be able to use it since I was accepted or will they end up denying me? Im pretty sure I would get accepted with sufficient income and a credit score in the 800's... Thanks for the help!

If there is ANY way you are feeling generous with those brochures I would greatly appreciate if you could PM me a code as well. My next flight isn't until June and after going back and forth with the phone agent with Chase she would not budge on giving the first year free. If you can it would be awesome

+2...spoke with an agent yesterday about the Club card and they even said the UA Select is one of the best cards to have. I still use the Platinum as well but the 2-for-1 companion ticket redemption is a joke.

I signed up for the Club as well with the fee waived and will cancel (approval still pending) prior to the anniversary date.
+another.

Exactly what I plan to do as well.

Well I just switched from the Presidential Plus to the Mileage Plus Club card. Though I like PP and the card design better (Presidential Plus just sounds more exclusive)... I switched over and gave up my grandfathered in rights because I want the 1.5 Miles/$ spent on all items.

This will be a bigger benefit since I work at home and don't have to buy much gas (got 2 miles/$ spent on gas with Presidential Plus).

We'll see how the switch over goes Hope to have my card in a week or so.

I'm keeping PPlus and got a new Club card.

I need about 30-35k EQMs a year to add to BIS to maintain Platinum status, but I love the 1.5 x $ mileage bonus.

So first $150k per year goes on PPlus, and remainder on new Club card.

Even at $790/yr in fees, worth it for ability to keep Platinum and earn 600k+ annual miles (I spend a lot for business on cards).

I'm doing the the same thing! The 1.5 / $ has more value to me vs the EQM's.

I called the Rep this morning and she said it was mailed out yesterday. I'm really hoping it was sent via UPS overnight as I have an $8,000+ purchase being billed tomorrow, plus several thousand more $$ mid next week and I'm really wanting to get the 1.5 Miles/$ instead of just the 1 Mile/$

Does anyone know if the United MileagePlus Club Business card has typically been sent overnight?

Thank!
