Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:
  • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

  • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):
  • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit. Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
  • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
  • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
  • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved for certain Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
  • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
  • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
  • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
  • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.com to learn about upcoming events
  • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection special rates and benefits
  • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
  • 24/7 Concierge Services

For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:

  • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

  • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

  • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options

For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

How long after applying for the card before I have UC access?
Chase / UA states (Offer Details)
Please allow 2 weeks after account open date for the United Club membership to activate
but it usually is quicker. At UCs, much of the time they will see it in under a week. *A lounges may require the physical card which may take 4-6 weeks. Those accepting the virtual card should work about the same as UCs.

The fine print on united.com does say "Upon cancellation of the credit card account, the United Club membership will be cancelled" but I'm wondering whether anyone has had any experience with this.
My CC had the renewal fee come up in January, so I cancelled it, but my President's Club card expiry date is the end of April. I used the President's Club card twice last week in EWR. It worked fine.

I wonder if Avis does name matching or card # matching. We have the same last name and address, perhaps I should just try registering for the Avis PC with the primary card #. Anyone care to try? The primary card member does not want the Avis membership.

They had asked me for my MileagePlus number and I guess they matched it up that way. But give it a shot, YMMV.

Interesting... the current application just says name and card #... and says "limit 1 PC membership per card holder".

Nothing to lose I guess by trying. It'd still only be 1 total PC membership.

I view this differently (and more negatively) - if they value all of the perks of the card at around $60 (which they would reimburse for the card for 1Ks), they basically are setting the United Club cheaper than even 1Ks can buy. So Joe Public gets preferential treatment over even 1Ks - again!
Absolutely agree with your logic, but feel that the numbers are much worse than that. The club membership is no better than half the value of the card to a lower-level flyer, so it's a far better deal than a 1k can get.

Used the club membership for the first time this week. LGA (concourse A) club wasn't great, but I was pretty impressed with the CLE club.

Also just used a benefit of the card I had not expected to at all... booked an award ticket for my girlfriend for next week, with no $75 close-in booking fee. Not a bad deal for just one hard credit pull (annual fee waived first year offer).

Interesting. The Hyatt agent I spoke to knew exactly what it was. Well, at least you got the upgrade.

I got the same response from my Hyatt agent. I guess it's not communicated consistently just yet. She insisted that Hyatt has no partnership with this card, lol.

Anyway, I ended up getting it done by @hyattconcierge on Twitter. Another great social media presence.

The big glossy brochure that came with my card today says it does include Primary Rental Car insurance.

Old versus new Club card ...

New to extensive travel for work and no status, last fall I got the Chase-Mileage Plus Club Card for discounted access to the RCC. Soon thereafter, Chase came out with Explorer card. While the Club card offered EQM, it did not offer Premier Access (priority boarding, free checked bag), so I also got the Explorer card. I subsquently reached status via segments, with miles far behind, so EQM is important consideration going forward.

Today I called to inquire about the real differences between my old Club card and the new Club card.

After my first call and subsequent reading of this thread left me wondering if the agent gave me correct information, my second call clarified my old Club card does not offer Premier Access, while the new Club card does not have EQM but does have Premier Access and 1.5 mile earnings/$1 spent non-United. It also costs $20 more than my $375 old Club card. All as has been discussed before.

While the first agent suggested my benefits with the old Club card would be "grandfathered" with continued EQM, I thought I would just hang onto my old Club card for time being.

However, then second agent explained, that come July all old Club cards would be changed over to the new Club cards, and the old benefits would be replaced by the new benefits. EQM will be gone, and at my anniversary date I would be charged the $395 going rate for new Club card.

I've got the Visa Signature card (just got a new one in the mail as my old one is expiring soon..very nice new look..however not as nice as the Club card).

But, I want the Club card and I just applied today online and was approved. During the application process it asks if you already have a Chase login ID.. I did, and I entered it and it pre-filled most of my personal info..handy. I'll call and cancel the Signature card once the Club card arrives.

I suppose it would be too much to call and ask Chase if I can just keep my Visa Signature account number..

Quick question. I have an existing basic United pre merger UA Chase Visa.

Using the "first year code"
Should I apply for the card online, or call in and ask to upgrade?
