Is this still the rule? I travelled BKK-NRT-FRA o/w C award earlier this year.

Thanks for your help and quick response. Do you know what they classify as backtracking? For instance is evn-vie-waw-sto-lon backtracking (it slightly goes the other way vie-waw) or am I only not allowed to backtrack between regions?

Thanks

Never have seen an analytical "definition" of backtracking, or how much retracing is allowed -- may be a bit on agent discretion.

Try booking online -- the online system tends to be more lenient but get the connections to show up may be more challenging.

One cannot back track between regions or within a region. Your proposed routing would likely be ok. However, something like EVN-VIE-MAD-IST-LON would not even though the backtracking is within the same region.

I've successfully booked BKK-TPE-NRT-ICN-SIN as an one way award a few months back ... Has the rules changed ?

Totally agreed. AA requires the over-water carrier to actually publish a revenue fare for a particular routing before it's award-bookable, which frequently creates headaches if you want to go to some second tier destination. With UA, you could literally create frankenawards.

I thought there was the IATA Maximum Permitted Mileage (MPM) limit? I know CO is less restrictive than UA but is it completely gone now?

What about domestic? How many stopovers can you have? I know it can't be more than 4 hours. Correct?

MPM is no longer enforced at all on award bookings.

Zero stopovers. You're talking about connections and you can have them but the value is generally much lower because of the time limits.
