avelo started ORD from HVN, but i believe it’s seasonal. some overlap in catchment area there with HPN, although i doubt avelo gets many biz flyers.
avelo has been fantastically successful with HVN. would love to see UA try HVN-ORD.

Me too. I grew up in Westchester County and spent many hours crammed into Air Wisconsin's CR2s in and out of HPN. The best seat on a CR2 was always the one with no one next to you...
I'm debating flying to Chicago on 6/30 just to be on the last UA flights in and out of White Plains.
Really disappointing to see UA pull out, especially with airlines like DL launching new routes like HPN-BOS.

One thought is that these days HPN is much more of an originating market than a destination, and for local residents, United doesnt offer a good value proposition compared to AA, DL or B6. Westchester and suburban CT residents are much more likely to prefer JFK/LGA to EWR, so their choice for HPN is more likely to be an airline that can also provide them greater options from the NYC airports east of Hudson.
1) As mentioned, Newark is difficult for residents living in Westchester/Fairfield. LGA and JFK are more convenient. As a result, Delta and American (and JetBlue) are more convenient for these passengers overall
2) Many regular corporations have downsized in the area. Financial firms continue to grow, largely in the CT side of things. Those guys are usually traveling to places, less so being visited (though it does happen). So as pointed out, HPN is more of an O airport than a D airport I guess.
3) Depending on where you live in the area, LGA isn't actually all that far. An Uber usually takes me 45 minutes to get to LGA. It takes me 25-30 minutes to get to HPN.
Overall I will consider using HPN on occasion
