They supposedly have orders for 1000+ C919 aircraft.
Wouldn't be surprised if they didn't [eventually] have a huge impact on Airbus and Boeing.

---

Very disappointed about UA not seeking more 777s. Much prefer the 777 to the 787.

As do I, but Boeing can’t seem to get the 777-9 certified, can they?

No, not even: pretty much Chinese airlines or Chinese-owned airlines only....at this point.
The CAAC is only just seeking outside-of-China approval for it this year.

Will UA buy any COMAC planes? No, not in our lifetime.
But to dismiss COMAC completely is naïve, IMO.

The C919 is currently flying (see pic) and if they can keep it up in the air and without many incidents, it will likely "take off", so to speak.
Once it does, it will have a huge impact on Boeing and Airbus, even if it just means that they'll have some current orders cancelled and can better keep up with demand, it will have a positive impact even on UA maybe.
And if it means Boeing will finally realize they have to up their game in order to stay relevant, well all the better.

I should take this and report back:

I like the NxxxUA system because it's always made it easy for me to track / log tail numbers of the flights I take.

The NxxxUA system is great, except how do you get several blocks of 100 numbers in a row with UA on the end. I wonder how much hassle it was in years past to get all those numbers - how much did they pay people to transfer their numbers. etc.?

Yep, exactly. And the problem with the other way is that they don’t even go sequentially. The first A321 is N44501. The next is N14502. Not N44502, 44503, etc

Doing N4501, N4502, etc even with no U or letter would be easier too.

I get what you're saying, but multitude of apps available for that purpose now make things much easier, with the benefit of being able to go back into the flight's history to find a tail you might have forgotten to note, or other carriers, including foreign.

I think the point is that if the tail numbers had some pattern embedded into them, you wouldn’t need an app/lookup table to decipher.

There is something to be said about being able to look at a number and be able to get information from it without whipping out an app or going to a website to look up something.
