Close-in ( T-24)?
A: Yes (it may appear to want to charge you but it should not
Q: What are the odds I will get a CPU?
A: Sadly, much lower than you probably want to believe. There seems to be slightly better odds on typical vacation routes--e.g., CUN, MCO, FLL, etc.
Q: I checked in exactly at T-24, and my name was #1 on the upgrade list. A few hours later, I'm suddenly #10 on the list! What gives?
A: This post gives a good explanation why. Basically, those with higher upgrade priority checked-in after you, and they be placed above you on the upgrade list. The harsh reality is that you only have priority only above non-rev travelers.
Q: I'm Marriott Titanium Elite, how do I get my Premier Silver status?
A: Go to https://mrrewardsplus.com/en_US/
Q: If I requalify as a Marriott Titanium Elite, do I have to renew my complimentary Premier Silver status every year?
A: Yes
Q: How can I get a United MileagePlus Presidential Plus Card?
A: Sorry, it is no longer offered.
Q: I qualified for Premier Silver this year (2016). The expiration date on the app says 1/31/2017. Shouldn't it be 1/31/2018?
A: The expiration date will automatically update to 2018 in 2017.

Complimentary upgrades (CPUs) are not given out across the Atlantic. That's why it goes out occasionally with empty seats. There are plenty of Premiers sitting in coach on those flights with empty BF seats. Your status means nothing in that respect.
If you pay the 20k miles and $550 to get on the waitlist and you do not clear, you get the miles and money back.
You might be offered a reasonable cash-only upgrade if seats are still available at check-in.

I.E: I bought an econ + seat, and then getting switched to a plane without enough econ plus. While it was only 30 dollars, I never got it back.
I wouldn't want this to happen to $550 dollars....
Also: What is the usually the price for the check in/gate upgrade if they have a lot of empty seats? Just wondering what is a normal offering, to see what I should accept. I don't know if anyone else experiences this, but every time I go to the United Club (at least at EWR) they seem much more "willing" to help, or give you a better offer. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Anyone have any updated experience with getting E+ on your connecting flight at check in even though it's more than 24 hours out? I'm connecting to an almost full intl flight and if my upgrade doesn't go through I really need to grab any open E+ seat asap.

In the past I have grabbed E+ seats for both flights at t-24 for my first flight. I hear that's not allowed anymore.

If you can't do it during OLCI, call UA and have an agent do it for you (or HUACA until you find an agent that will do it)

It's always worked for me but people have been claiming otherwise...sometimes it lists a price for the seat on the second one but it never actually charges for it.

Has not been a problem for me on my last six flights (late July and August) - all with connections that were later than T-24. Won't be a problem here in three days when I take my next flight and I'll be Gold

Finally!
After speaking to twenty agents for my Mileage Card, I finally got my Premier Silver Card.
I actually got it as "compensation", as a rude MPSC phone agent actually cursed at me when I asked her why everyone was going to giving me different dates of card arrival, and why some people told me they no longer distributed them.
So, after sending a lengthy complaint, a man that claims he is the lead representative for MileagePlus (Ken xxxxx ... he didn't come up on Google) told me that since I was treated so poorly, he will go "out of his way" (yeah right) and give me a card, even though they were eliminated on July 1st.
So I guess that's why I received a card-less kit.....
Anyway, even though you guys claim the card is essentially useless, I've already needed it in Munich Airport, and didn't have it, so, maybe it will come of some use....
Also, I kinda wanted it for novelty. Even if it's more "obsolete" these days, it will be cool to look back on as we move into a more digital age.
Anyway, here is world's last (for now) MileagePlus Premier Silver Card:

i'm 1/1 on upgrades, yyc-iah on the 6am flight after canada day (a major stat holiday that was on a wednesday this year). business cabin wide open, confirmed night before, 6 people were on the list and i was on the top (?). i'll be a platinum before my next CPU-upgradable ua flight. cannot complain, *silver is pretty useless but ua's made it worthwhile for me for the 1 ua flight i have taken with them since hitting silver. have flown TONS in AC J and was amazed that a bowl of cheerios was actually an option for breakfast (AC domestic J = a really good omelet + sausage or pancakes). cheerios would have been better than the quiche.

I flew LHR-EWR-PTY yesterday. Checked in for flight at T-23.59. Was able to select E+ on both planes with no issue.
Also passed 50K miles somewhere over Florida on the trip, so not a concern for me going forward (for a while at least)

So this is what's it like to be a Silver ...
Long time 1K or at least gold for the last decade. Changed to AA last year but did enough on UA to retain Silver.
Everyone knows the printed changes (E+ only available on check in, no CPU etc.) and they really aren't so bad. I still board in Group 2, I get to use
the Premier lane etc but the intangibles are bad.
a) Missed my connection due to technical problem and no phone call or pro-active rescheduling. Had to stand in line. Tried calling but was an hour long wait.
b) Checked bag was a measly 0.5 pound over the limit and had to move stuff to carry on.
c) Had to sit in E- one day and was genuinely surprised when I asked for the can was told no. I flew over 1MM with UA and that never happened to me before.
Anyway, it wasn't too bad but not too good either.
