GateGourmet pending strike? 30 July 2024 (Deal reached? pre-order not returned yet?)

So Gate Gourmet workers are set to go on strike on July 30th unless last minute deals are reached.

How does this affect Polaris service?

I read that even beverage -- booze -service could be disrupted.

Japan Air Lines is going to serve some cold and packaged food for their premium cabin meals from BOS to Tokyo.

Are they striking for better in-house meals?

Hmmmmm, I wonder if that's why I haven't gotten my pre-order link in my reservation. I fly EWR-SFO on July 29 and SFO-SIN on July 30. Does Gate Gourmet service SFO? They might be scrambling and dont know what they'll have available. Just wonderful, 17 hours SFO-SIN with snack boxes and no beverages

That would be a nice upgrade from the standard offerings on United. But I bet it would get vetoed for breaking the F&B budget allocated to Polaris if United did that 😆

Gate Gourmet also cater BR, SQ and others out of SFO in addition to UA. Interesting to see how they cope with strike if it happens.
I know (from visiting the Gate Gourmet facility a few years back) the airlines store their beverages at Gate Gourmet facility.
Interesting to see what UA's contingency plan is.

GateGourmet pending strike

Scheduled for 7/30.
no food or beverage service would result.. A transatlantic flight becomes v-e-r-y long and unsatisfactory.
Has anyone flown under these conditions?

I think "no" is an extreme case "limited" is more likely.
Do we have a list of which airports UA uses GGG for catering vs its competitors (NewRest, Sky Cafe, LSG, AirFayre, etc)?

I know IAH is NewRest and CLE is SkyCafe (with horrible branding)
Pretty sure EWR is GGG, not sure about IAD or ORD.

I think ORD is LSG SkyChefs, I do not know about IAD or EWR.

No one has ever flown under those conditions, and nobody will.. It's illegal to operate a flight without potable water.

Food, on the other hand -- I rarely eat on a plane, including on TPAC flights, which are much longer than TATL flights.

As a reference, here's how it played out when GateGourmet struck at YYZ earlier this year.

So do the terms of the ticket you buy allow them to downgrade the soft product without having to compensate the clients?
