California really is slipping into the Pacific
Just checked a flight from SFO to PVG on
ual.com. The distance is now 6151.
I make this trip about 4 times a year.
Everytime this year it has posted as 6168.
Did California slip 17 miles closer to
Shanghai and I missed it?

No, UA moved its ops to the new airport at Pudong, which explains the change in mileage, as Pudong is further east than the old field.

What it's listed as and what it posts as are two different things. I've never had a flight post for the same mileage as listed on the reservations screens.

Maybe that string of earthquakes over the past few days _has_ been having an effect after all...

China is planning to invade N America and they are gradually inching closer. The earthquakes are just a side effect of the method of movement. Ever once and a while they get all the citizens to jump to the side really hard and slide China over a couple of feet.
I betcha the flights from NRT are closer to Shanghai but NRT is just as close to as it was before.
An investigation must be made into the other major airports in China...maybe the government is covering up at all the rest and making the airlines award the old mileage amounts and they missed Shanghai.

When UA moved it ops from Denver-Stapleton to DIA--I think it took almost four years before they adjusted MP miles credit to reflect the new location. ORD-DEN went from 901 to 886 as DIA is farther east.
