"We'll be here for you"

"We'll be here for you"
As we began our descent into Chicago this afternoon, the pilot on our flight from Hartford (BDL) thanked us for flying United and remarked that, on behalf of the employees of United, "we'll be here for you." It was kind of sad. I'm kind of wondering who his intended audience was. Just the passengers or the FAs too and his fellow pilot? The whole thing is sad.
