Non 1-800 number for US Reservations?

Hi.

Does anyone have a local number for United Reservations in the US? I'm currently in Brasil and need to talk to them regarding a refund. I don't have the correct calling card to dial it directly from here.

I can call United reservations in Brasil, but they inform me that I need to speak to the US office.

Many thanks,
Steve

You can still use the 800 number, but it won't be toll free. You'll pay the same charges as you would with the non 800 number.

I do not recall anyone ever having solved this puzzle, finding a UA Reservations number that is not an 8nn number.

I do recall a related post that made mention of the fact that the following toll-free numbers can be accessed from international locations by substituting per the following:

800 can be called with 880
888 can be called with 881
877 can be called with 882
866 can be called with 883

I'll admit I've never tried this.

Good thoughts, but I'm still stuck.

zrs70: Nope. I've done this in Europe, but Brasil is a whole new ball game. I can get service on my Nextel line in Rio or Sao Paulo, but am still unable to connect to an 800 number.

worldtrav: Tried, but am informed they have a special trunk line that permits it. Tried talking to a couple of different agents down here, but kept on getting the same story.

transpac: Nope, just tried it out of Porto Alegre, no good.

I had solved this puzzle with Delta Airlines (1-404-765-5000). Found this in their printed schedule book, under the Atlanta listing.

Any chance a buddy with a United schedule book could give a glance at the US City Office phone numbers for San Francisco or Chicago & advise if there is anything other than an 800 number listed?

Thanks

Good luck with this. I tried to got a non-800 number out of United about 6-mos ago. I knew I would be traveling to Burma and there is no way to get to a USA 800 number from there. I ended up dialing my office and then having a secretary conference-call UA resv. Crazy, when you consider that all 800 numbers are linked to a non-800 "real" number. As a matter of fact, I would save UA money by calling the non-800 number!

I just tried (847) 700-4000, spoke to a person, asked them to transfer me to resv. They would not do it, insisting that I must call the 800 number.

Sorry to hear about the problem. I used an IDT card (US company) to call an 800 number from Australia. They said it would work and it did. Some companies didn't know or said it would not work.

According to switchboard.com, try (773)693-9256, United's number on 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Chicago. Is this a CTO?

Perhaps the Red Carpet Club Service Center may help (or refuse to connect you). They are at (520) 881-0500 according to an old United timetable (which doesn't have local reservation numbers as far as I can see).

Try 312-364-1989, the direct # for United International Reservations.

Bokich,

Many thanks. The number put me right through. 1-800 numbers are great, until you run past the borders. I always get worried when the i2000 gives me that little "no service" message.

Hopefully, the issue will go away, with an AT&T calling card showing up in Florida within 7 - 10 working days. Hard to believe I can call the US from anywhere on an AMEX card, but can't made an 800 call on the same theory.

Anyway, many thanks to all the FT'ers for the input.

Steve
