LAX-YYZ which would you choose ?

Need to fly one-way LAX-YYZ 1Q2025 and here are the flights I'm considering - I'm not an elite member of either program and have NEXUS with just carry-on luggage:

Westjet Premium US$ 539
  • WS 1511 Dep LAX 12:55 Arr YYC 17:07 [737-800]
  • WS 676 Dep YYC 18:30 Arr YYZ 00:26+ [737-700]
Air Canada Basic Economy US$ 247
  • AC 788 Dep LAX 11:55 Arr YYZ 19:22 [787]
I'm leaning towards WS as I think their premium service is worth 2x AC Basic Economy, and would like to avoid getting a middle seat on AC's 787. Which would you recommend ?

There isn't a non-stop WS flight on the date I'm looking at

Neither. I'd choose one of the direct flights on Porter - anything other than the Basic fare includes carry-on, there are no middle seats, the wifi is free and good, the snacks are better, and the buy-onboard menu is much nicer.
Prices will come down in a few months, so you will likely be able to get a deal on PorterReserve, which is their premium offering, if you wait (e.g. LAX-YYZ in September has PorterReserve for $374 CAD / ~$271 USD).
