The Definitive “Expiring SkyMiles” Thread: NO LONGER RELEVANT

For just a moment, allow me to tear your attention away from the dozens of ongoing threads that discuss the destruction of the Medallion program.

It has occurred to me that there are an inordinate number of new topics that get started concerning "What is a quick/easy/cheap way to extend the expiration date of my miles?" Invariably, some of us give answers to the poster. However, there is no need to rehash this topic over and over, as methods of account activity don't change that dramatically from month to month.

Therefore, from now on, when someone asks this question, let's just direct them here to my humbly named: The Definitive "How do I extend the expiration date of my miles" Thread

When they get here, the people can review a slew of old threads which I compile below. And if you think of a great new way to extend mileage expiration, just throw it on this thread as well (don't throw it on to one of the old ones, or they'll keep surfacing at the top).

If I missed any threads, add a link!

I copied this directly from the SkyMiles Online Membership Guide

"Miles will not expire as long as you participate in one of the following activities every three years:

•Travel on a qualifying Delta, Delta Connection, Delta Express or Delta Shuttle flight.
Participate in the SkyMiles program with one of the SkyMiles program partners, including airline partners, hotels, car rentals, American Express/SkyMiles Credit Card, credit card partner or any other program partner such as cruiselines, restaurants, mortgage lenders, real estate and telephone services.
• Redeem your miles for a SkyMiles Award.

So there ya go....

UDH...welcome back!! You've been laying low....but maybe you have a life as opposed to some of the rest of us on this board. We seem to have chased away bruceb and Jetlanta but I hope you'll stay and add your very helpful insights.

I just "discovered" that my daughter has 7000 skymiles that she earned on a trip in 1989. Maybe miles from that far back never expired, but now they do......Daze

You can "spend" a few miles at Milepoint which posts almost immediately to Delta and your expiration timer gets reset the next day. I did this in December using only 63 miles to get a discount on an Amazon GC.

How do I extend the expiration date of my miles?

Sorry. I simply could not resist.

Preventing Delta miles from expiring

I have approximately 60,000 Delta sky miles that are due to expire this December. I do not expect to take a flight on Delta between now and December. Is there anything else I can do to prvent these miles from expiring?

Barb, welcome to FT!

Any activity on your account will roll over your expiration date for 3 more years (I believe it's 3).

Join Idine and go out to eat:

www.idine.com

It's free and is a very lucrative program.

There are lots of other ways to add to your Skymiles. Try using the search function on this board.

How about referring a friend? Earn 500 miles and post an activity to extend your miles.

Won't work: read the fine print. Only activities such as flights, car rental, hotel stays etc. are valid. And using miles, of course.

I had 2500 miles deposited to my account as a newsletter subscription bonus, but mileage expiry date remained unchanged.

Same here....

Kiosk bonus posted for my children (flying on award tickets) but their SkyMiles expiry date did not advance. Time to put their SkyMiles numbers on our rental car accounts.
