While it hasn't happened to me, I believe other posters have had this happen to them.
Any idea why this would have happened to you? Did you maybe sell some travel advice?

Unlucky? Have you recently sold something on ebay related to UA? Wouldn't call it unlucky, just bad thinking.

Instead of wasting money to audit people, lets keep our RCC's open... what's the point??

Johnny, could this *cough* be related to your audit on US Airways as well?

Very curious that the OP would be audited by both UA and US at the same time.
OP....can you shed any light on what the connection between the two accounts might be??

There is a connection between an audit on US and UA.
At the start of this year I took a trip on United - half way through the itinerary altered the FF from UA to US as I hadn't been using UA much the previous year and wanted to maintain status on US.
Didn't think too much of it at the time, but apparently some parts of the journey appeared on both accounts.
So one assumes they are checking for other errors that may have been made...
US have been very very helpful and have said it will take 10 days to sort.
UA say they have written to me and should follow the advice in the letter once I receive it but would not go into details over the phone.
I think the whole situation is extreme to say the least when we are talking about 1,500 miles in total.
But nothing to do with selling stuff on Ebay!!

I wouldn't fret too much. Either/both UA/US think maybe you might have attempted a double-dip. Since you haven't done anything which is against the rules you have nothing to worry about. It might be a pain if they froze your account or penalized you without cause.
I've changed FF accrual mid-trip without issue, have also flown 'naked' then retroactively claimed mileage credit.
